Rail transport between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan increased by 50%


According to the results of the first half of 2020, trade between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan amounted to $332.9 million, which is 24% more than in the same period of 2019. This was stated by Akramjon Nematov, First Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan. According to him, Uzbekistan makes a significant contribution to improving the socio-economic situation in Afghanistan. In particular, Tashkent extended until the end of 2020 a 50 percent discount on the transit of goods through Uzbekistan. Nematov added that for six months the volume of railway traffic amounted to 2.2 million tons, which is 50.7% more than in the same period of 2019.
