Kenya resident arrested for spreading false news about COVID-19
Kenya police arrested a 23-year-old for publishing false information about the distribution of coronavirus. This is reported by the Swahili Air Force. According to journalists at the television and radio company, Elijah Mutui Kitonio was arrested in Mwingi, eastern Kenya, for giving misleading details about the country's first confirmed coronavirus case. His posting on a fake anonymous Twitter account, which spread widely on social media over the weekend, claimed that the first ill coronavirus in Kenya came from Rome, not from the United States via London, as reported in a government statement. According to a report from Kenya's criminal investigation office, the detainee will be charged with publishing false information that could cause panic. Violating Kenya's cybercrime law could result in a $50,000 fine or a prison sentence of no more than 10 years or both, reporters said. Earlier, the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, called on citizens to refrain from publishing and disseminating false information about coronavirus.
