Erdogan: we did a big job by opening Aya Sofia for worship

Turkey has been monitoring and restoring the Church of Hagia Sofia for hundreds of years and is now doing a great job of opening it for worship, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a televised address on July 10. According to him, the Turkish conquerors of Constantinople found the temple in poor condition and on the web. "For 560 years, our ancestors watched Aya Sofia as a pearl, constantly restoring it and adding beauty to this magnificent structure. We are confident that we will do a great job of opening this place for worship, as well as preserving the cultural component of this building, Erdogan said. Earlier, he emphasized that any comments on the transformation of the Church of Hagia Sofia into a mosque will be regarded as interference with the sovereignty of Turkey. According to the news agency, on July 10, the Turkish State Council canceled the decree of 1934 on the transformation of the Church of Hagia Sofia into a museum. On the same day, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a decree on the start of Muslim services in this church.
