Georgia may amend the Electoral Code - Talakvadze

The Parliament of Georgia needs to develop and amend the Electoral Code to take measures that will prevent the spread of coronavirus during the elections. This was told to reporters on June 22 by parliament speaker Archil Talakvadze, the agency InterprossNews reports. The chairman of the parliament noted that it is necessary to understand what epidemiological safety measures should be applied at polling stations, as well as to provide an algorithm so that those who are in quarantine can vote. Talakvadze also said that a meeting was held with representatives of opposition parties and social movements, at which they discussed what measures would be needed during the vote. There was a very interesting meeting, the main issues that we have to reflect in the legislation were outlined. This will contribute to the holding of elections in a safe environment, the speaker of parliament said. Recall that parliamentary elections in Georgia are scheduled for October 31. According to some forecasts, at this time the second wave of coronavirus distribution may begin in the country.
