China has adopted amendments to the law on armed police
Chinese lawmakers adopted draft amendments to the law on the People's Armed Police, the China Daily newspaper reported on June 21. Legislators approved the revision of the law at the regular session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC). The amended law comes into force on June 21. According to the revised law, the Chinese armed police force is an important part of the armed forces of the People's Republic of China and is under the centralized and unified subordination of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Military Council. The armed police will be engaged in patrols, security issues in emergency situations, as well as take part in search and rescue operations, among other tasks.
