South Korean Foreign Minister and EU representative discussed coronavirus situation


On 16 April, South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Gyung-hwa had a telephone conversation with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrel, with whom she discussed the coronavirus situation and cooperation in the fight against COVID-19. This is reported by Yonhap News with reference to representatives of the South Korean Foreign Ministry. During the conversation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea noted that the authorities of the country continue to take measures to completely eradicate coronavirus in the country, and added that scientists are working to create vaccines. In turn, Borrel praised the South Korean government's efforts, noting that many countries were trying to contain the epidemic, and stressed the need to develop a medium-term and long-term response plan to the coronavirus outbreak. The parties also agreed that international cooperation and solidarity were more important than ever, adding that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had decided to exempt 25 of the world's poorest countries from debt payment and had also agreed to continue cooperation in the fight against coronavirus.
