Scientists have identified a link between hair color and life expectancy

A moderate correlation between dark hair colour and lower life expectancy was revealed by UK medics. The study is published in the journal Nature Communications. Previous studies have shown that early puberty is associated with an increased risk of developing certain diseases in older age, including several cancers, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Accordingly, the increased risk of developing these diseases reduces average life expectancy. The timing of puberty is determined by a wide range of genetic and other factors. To study the biological mechanisms that determine the time of puberty, a group of scientists led by John Perry and Ken Ong of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine analyzed genetic data from several hundred thousand people contained in the UK Biobank biobank. The study found that sexual maturity comes earlier in men with dark natural hair color, including red, dark chestnut and black. Previously, the same result was found for women. Scientists have suggested that this effect is due to the overall effect of pituitary hormones on puberty and hair pigmentation. As previously reported by the news agency, in May 2018, scientists from the United States presented the results of a study that revealed a link between genes responsible for hair color and controlling the body's immune system.
